Rhyolite is the most silica-rich of volcanic rocks. It is generally glassy or fine-grained in texture but may be porphyritic, containing larger mineral crystals in an otherwise fine-grained groundmass. The mineral assemblage is predominantly quartz, sanidine, and plagioclase.
